That reminds me of the counting pines in Discworld. They grow a number, at eye height, showing their current age. Their reasoning being that since humans cut down trees to count the rings to determine their age, if they present the age like that, they won’t get cut down.
Sadly they keep getting cut down to make house number plates instead.
